Watson is a handsome young yellow Labrador who has received extensive professional training and was originally being prepared for service-dog work. While we have decided that the service-dog path is not the best fit for him, Watson has an impressive foundation and is ready for a special home that will appreciate just how much training has already been invested in him.
At just 8 months old, Watson is completely obedience trained and has learned skills that take many owners months—or even years—to establish.
Watson knows:
• Sit
• Stay
• Down
• Place
• Climb
• Leave It
• Off
• His name and recall/attention
• Calm, controlled leash walking
• Stops and sits at heel
His real-world manners are just as impressive:
• Fully potty trained
• Loads into a vehicle
• Rides calmly in the car
• Good with other dogs
• Comfortable and well behaved in public
• Has experience behaving appropriately in food establishments
• Will quietly place underneath a chair or table
• Allows his nails to be trimmed
• Allows his teeth to be brushed
Watson has had a tremendous amount of time, structure and professional training invested in him. He is well beyond what you would normally expect from a young Labrador and would be a wonderful choice for someone looking for a trained companion without starting from the puppy stage.
One area Watson is still working on:
Watson can be uncertain or skittish around some men. He isn’t finished developing his confidence in this area, and his new owner should be willing to continue positive, controlled exposure with men. Our plan was to begin taking him to places such as Home Depot with high-value treats and create repeated positive experiences so he learns that unfamiliar men are nothing to worry about.
We want to be completely transparent about this because finding the right home for Watson is more important than simply finding him a home.
